Old Crissy Field Coast Guard Station (2015)

from $399.00

When it comes to taking photos of buildings for Wikipedia, I always strive to provide some information about the structure’s specific context in my image. In this case, the Coast Guard Station was placed right next to the entrance of the San Francisco Bay because the Golden Gate can be very treacherous for ships when thick fog flows into the bay. That’s why I’ve waited for such a fog event to occur before taking this picture.

This image achieved “Featured Picture” status, which is Wikipedia’s designation for finest image quality. The photo has since been used in articles like “Coast Guard Station Golden Gate”, and “Presidio (San Francisco)”, on various Wikipedia language versions.

This picture was taken with a Canon 7D camera and a Canon EF 70–200mm f/4L IS USM focus lens. The lens is part of Canon’s L-Series, known for superb optics and performance.

Museum-quality print produced with archival pigment inks on Hahnemühle Photo Rag Baryta paper using a professional wide format Canon imagePROGRAF PRO-1000 printer.

Hahnemühle paper is made in my home state of Lower Saxony in Germany. It dates back to the year 1584 when the Duke of Braunschweig granted the right to build a paper mill to paper making craftsman Merten Spieß.
