Hamburg’s historic warehouse district (2022)

from $299.00

I grew up in a Northern German town, not far from Hamburg. Whenever I see the brick architecture that’s common in the regions in and around the Baltic Sea, I feel immediately at home. Like in this picture that I took during a work trip to Germany in September 2022. The image shows the historic warehouse district (“Speicherstadt”) of the port of Hamburg. In the background you see St. Catherine’s Church, one of Hamburg’s five principal lutheran churches (middle) and St. Nicholas Church, destroyed during the bombing of Hamburg in World War II (left).

This image achieved “Featured Picture” status, which is Wikipedia’s designation for finest image quality. The photo has since been used in articles like “Speicherstadt”, and “Port of Hamburg”, on various Wikipedia language versions.

This picture was taken with a Leica M11 rangefinder camera and a Leica Summilux-M 35mm f/1.4 aspherical lens. Leica’s legendary cameras and lenses represent the epitome of German craftsmanship and optical quality. Mechanical precision and the use of only the finest materials guarantee unrivaled performance.
