Point Reyes Lighthouse (2012)

from $399.00

This is where my journey as a volunteer photographer for Wikipedia began. In 2012, I bought my first digital camera, a compact Leica X1. Almost every weekend, I drove on Highway 1 along the Pacific Coast on my search for photo opportunities. In the beginning, I focused on lighthouses. The Point Reyes Lighthouse has since become one of my favorite lighthouses as it is located in such an isolated point of the rocky Northern California coastline.

This image achieved “Featured Picture” status, which is Wikipedia’s designation for finest image quality. The photo has since been used in articles like “Point Reyes National Seashore”, and “The Fog (1980 film)”, on various Wikipedia language versions.

This picture was taken with a Leica X1 camera and a Leica Elmarit 24mm f/2,8 lens. Leica’s legendary cameras and lenses represent the epitome of German craftsmanship and optical quality. Mechanical precision and the use of only the finest materials guarantee unrivaled performance.

Museum-quality print produced with archival pigment inks on Hahnemühle Photo Rag Baryta paper using a professional wide format Canon imagePROGRAF PRO-1000 printer.

Hahnemühle paper is made in my home state of Lower Saxony in Germany. It dates back to the year 1584 when the Duke of Braunschweig granted the right to build a paper mill to paper making craftsman Merten Spieß. Hahnemühle paper fulfills highest quality standards and provides an excellent ageing resistance.
