North Face of Mount Shasta (2022)

from $599.00

The north face of the volcano Mount Shasta (Karuk: “Úytaahkoo”) as seen from Siskiyou County Route A12 at sunset. This image is part of my long-term project “Thirty-six Views of Mount Shasta”, depicting the volcano from different locations and in various seasons and weather conditions. The series aims at bringing the concept of Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji by Japanese artist Hokusai (1760–1849) into the 21st century.

This image achieved “Featured Picture” status, which is Wikipedia’s designation for finest image quality. The photo has since been used in articles like “Mount Shasta”, and “List of volcanoes in the United States and Canada”, on various Wikipedia language versions.

This picture was taken with a Canon R5 camera and a Canon RF 70–200mm F4 L IS USM lens. The lens is part of Canon’s acclaimed L-Series, known for superb optics and performance.
